WHAT CAN I DO WITH A BLACK AND DECKER HEDGE TRIMMER?

By using a Black and Decker hedge trimmer, you have the ability to take control of your hedges and trees.

Too often, trees have a mind of their own. They even tend to grow exactly where you don’t want them to go. Typically, you can shape them and train them into taking a preferred direction. But overgrowth can force you to take your yard back.

Fortunately, the Black and Decker hedge trimmer performs well enough that you’ll feel confident when doing yard work.

As you continue through your yard, you’ll notice that some spots are harder to reach than others. They might require you to use the assistance of ladders or other boosting tools. Luckily, the reach of the HB2455 allows you to put in enough effort without overexerting yourself.

Sometimes, you might feel like chopping off stray branches. It’s one of the most grueling parts of yard work. Too many stray branches can create problems for sun exposure. They can obscure the necessary sunlight you need for your garden.

But, thanks to the Black and Decker hedge trimmer, you can be sure that your plants can soak up all the sun that they need.

WHERE IS THE BEST PLACE TO FIND A BLACK AND DECKER HEDGE TRIMMER?

You can find the Black and Decker hedge trimmer you need just about anywhere that sells home improvement supplies and accessories. We took a look at Lowe’s and The Home Depot as our first two stops. And both of them are likely located in your area. If you need a hedge trimer right this minute and don’t mind paying a bit extra, you can check these stores first.

A quick glance at smaller dealers might benefit you as far as a lower price. While you might think that independent hardware stores are more likely to charge more, that might not be the case. It depends on where you live, and, after all, it never hurts to check!

There’s also Amazon, which stocks the HH2455 through several different vendors on their marketplace. Many of them offer free shipping, saving you money. This is important when we’re talking about the bulky packaging and heavy weight of a product like the Black and Decker hedge trimmer.

HOW MUCH WILL I PAY FOR A BLACK AND DECKER HEDGE TRIMMER?

When we looked around for the HH2455 Black and Decker hedge trimmer, we found a typical price of about $70 for a brand-new model. This comes with all of the original packaging and accessories included by Black and Decker.

Inside a Home Depot or Lowe’s, we saw the same price advertised for the HH2455.

However, if you decide to shop for a used model, we would advise you to read the description carefully. Third-party vendors should list any specific repairs needed on a refurbished or used model before you make the commitment to purchase one.

WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR WHEN BUYING A BLACK AND DECKER HEDGE TRIMMER?

We’ve been writing about hedge trimmers and other yard accessories for some time now. So, we know exactly what features and specs you need to learn. Going into your purchase of a Black and Decker hedge trimmer – while knowing the same things we look out for will save you money and frustration down the road.

CHOOSING THE PROPER HEDGE TRIMMER

Before we talk about the specifics of the HH2455, it’s important to understand why and how we arrived at the score we did.

You might have different cutting or trimming requirements depending on the setup of your yard. When choosing a hedge trimmer, you’ll want to ask yourself about your expectations when doing hedge trimming.

Does your Black and Decker hedge trimmer need to cut through thick branches? Your choice will differ depending on your property. And this includes its size and whether you’re on commercial or residential land.

How wide are the hedges you’re working with, and how will you shape them?

Finally, you need to know how often and for how long you’ll be working with the hedge trimmer. Longer sessions require a more versatile tool.

DOUBLE-SIDED TRIMMERS

This is probably the most common type of model you’ll encounter when shopping for a Black and Decker hedge trimmer. You can use this kind of trimmer to shear and shape your hedges up to chest high. If you’re working with a private/residential garden in your own home, this is most likely the kind you’ll purchase.

Be on the lookout for an adjustable handle on a double-sided Black and Decker hedge trimmer. This is going to make your life a lot easier.

When you’re on the job for a while, you can use this handle to maneuver around the tighter and more difficult areas of your garden. Using the handle, you can quickly change the direction of the cut without making too many steps with your feet.

ONE-SIDED TRIMMERS

The next step up in hedge trimmers is a single-sided version. Designed for lopping off straight portions of your hedge, you will find the teeth on one side of the bar. Meanwhile, the blade tends to be a bit lengthier. This lets you slice off bigger areas in one fell swoop.

Most of the time, you’ll be using a single-sided trimmer when working in a commercial area. However, you might benefit from a Black and Decker hedge trimmer with one side if you have a bigger yard of your own.

The benefit of a single side is the lighter load you’ll be carrying in your hands. This basically means you can work longer without needing to give your arms a rest.

If you want, you can usually strap on longer cutters that can sweep through thick and long hedges without any trouble. You’ll keep the hedge trimmer from unbalancing itself — and possibly taking you with it.

LONG-REACH TRIMMERS

If you’re a professional landscaper, you might need to invest in long-reach trimmers for you and your employees. You’ll need this kind of Black and Decker hedge trimmer if you plan to chop hedges that are very high up, and any that have different, irregular heights.

You’re able to angle the cutting bar with a long-reach trimmer, so you can get to the top of those pesky high ledges. You can also get rid of the extra-bushy areas while not risking your neck on a ladder. Like other models, you can adjust long-reach trimmers to tilt where you need them.

If nothing else, your back is going to thank you for using a long-reach trimmer. You’ll feel so much better after investing in one of these if you typically need to do a lot of reaching.

REVIEWING THE HH2455 BLACK AND DECKER HEDGE TRIMMER

Now that you know how to choose the correct Black and Decker hedge trimmer, we’re going to look at the HH2455.

PERFORMANCE

The first thing that struck us about the HH2455 Black and Decker hedge trimmer was the ease and smooth movement of the rotating handle.

Too often, these parts of a hedge trimmer feel loose, and you get the impression that you could lose control of them at any moment. However, with this model, you’ll feel like the HH2455 is a part of your arm.

The blades measure 24 inches, more than enough to get at any branches on any side of a tree taking up space in your yard. They’re already resistant to rust and have been given a pre-hardening treatment. This makes them more durable before you even get them out of the box.

These blades are capable of cutting 0.75-inch branches, while still maintaining their sharpness for years.

COMFORT

We loved how little we felt the vibration from the Black and Decker hedge trimmer, even without wearing gloves. The handle also provides three different sides to choose from. This ensures that you have every angle available while working on your yard.

The handle swivels as well, enabling you to turn the blade along with it. You can move these an entire 90 degrees to the left or right. This feels completely organic in your hands and helps to keep you focused on what’s in front of you, not in your hands.

POWER

We truly appreciated the capability of the inline motor that comes inside the HH2455 Black and Decker hedge trimmer.

Overall, the cutting performance is brilliant. It felt balanced all throughout our review session. As this is an electric model, there’s a cord retention pigtail included. This helps to make sure you don’t accidentally unplug the machine — and saves you a run all the way back to the outlet to fix it.

You’ll feel safe with the lock-on switch that works both ways. If you need to keep it continuously running, throw it one way. If you prefer to keep it turned off, just flip it in the other direction.

WHAT WE LIKED

We’ll start out with the best parts of the Black and Decker hedge trimmer. There’s no assembly required with this one, so you won’t have to crack open the toolbox when you take this home or open the shipping box. You’re really getting more than your money’s worth with this one.

The HH2455 comes with a two-year warranty, about the average for a hedge trimmer, but still great compared to other companies that only give you a single year. We felt great using this for the more overgrown sections of the yard.

It was incredibly simple to move horizontally and vertically through branches with the HH2455. Even though it claims to cut through three-quarter-inch branches, we had to test it to be sure. It passed with flying colors.

WHAT WE DIDN’T LIKE

It wouldn’t be a fair review if we just sang the praises of the HH2455 Black and Decker hedge trimmer without a note about the negatives.

We’ll start with the obvious: This is an electric model, and it’s not cordless. Already, you’re losing some of the power that you would get with a gas-operated hedge trimmer.

On top of that, you’ll need to use an extension cord to keep this plugged in. If you don’t plan on moving far from the outlet, it’s not that big of a deal. That said, we can’t imagine anyone whose trees are all conveniently located next to one outlet.

Along with the clutter associated with electric models, the HH2455 isn’t going to cut as quickly as a gas- or even battery-operated model. You’ll need to keep finding a new power source or adjusting the cord as necessary throughout your work session.

If this is your first time using a hedge trimmer, $70 might not seem as good of a deal as what we stated before. It’s just a case of sticker shock, but other hedge trimmers are available for cheaper. Whether or not they do the job that the HR2455 can is another story.

FINAL THOUGHTS ON THE HH2455 BLACK AND DECKER HEDGE TRIMMER

Despite a few grievances, we enjoyed our time with the HH2455. It’s a wonderful Black and Decker hedge trimmer that delivers on all of its promises out of the box.

As long as you don’t go in expecting all the benefits of a gas-powered hedge trimmer, you’ll be as happy using it as we were to write this review.

Rating: 4.5/5

Overall, we highly recommend this hedge trimmer for general yard work. We think it will make your work easier and more enjoyable.
