How we reviewed
Below, we'll review the best six Cub Cadet push mower models. To do so, we've consulted numerous profession reviews from industry experts. In addition, we've also scoured feedback from thousands of real customers.
Note that our rankings are based on aggregate scores pulled from across the various sources. More specifically, our ratings are from one to five stars, with five stars being the best, and one star being the worst.
Cub Cadet CC 800 Wide Area Walk Mower
The CC 800 boasts the highest-rated spot for walk-behind mowers on the Cub Cadet website. And it also rates very highly with customers on several other distributor websites. It features a large 382cc engine and an extra-wide 33-inch mower deck, making it one of Cub Cadet’s most-powerful push mowers.
As one reviewer enthusiastically raved about the CC 800:
“This mower is a beast. I purchased this at the beginning of the season after my 48-inch pull behind mower desk started having issues. The mower is easy to start and operate. The propulsion is awesome. It easily goes up some of the steep slopes and the lower gears provide great control for going down. The electronic starter is great. It immediately starts and runs very smoothly.”
This reviewer’s lone criticism was in the design of the handles. The CC 800 has dual triggers that require the user to squeeze with both thumbs, which can get tiring.
The CC 800 also features a three-year limited residential warranty. And it features the company’s patented SmartJet system and a brake clutch that allows you to disengage the mower blades while operating. In addition, you'll get Cub Cadet’s Thermal Auto Choke w/ SureStart Guarantee.
For it's price, the CC 800 provides excellent performance within the low-middle tier of the Cub Cadet push mower pricing spectrum.
Cub Cadet Sc 700 High Wheel Walk-Behind Mower
- Powered by a 159cc Front Wheel Drive OHV engine
- This self-propelled lawn mower is perfect for mowing small to medium sized yards
- Offers a very lightweight design with a 21-inch steel deck
The mid-sized Cub Cadet SC 700 H uses a 190cc Honda GCV190 OHC engine to easily self-propel, leading to less strain on the person using it.
The SC 700’s uses Cub Cadet’s MaxControl drive system to let users select between front, rear, or four-wheel drive to tackle any type of terrain. This provides tremendous grip and versatility for a walk-behind mower.
This Cub Cadet push mower also uses a uniquely designed bagging system to create optimal airflow.
Like many Cub Cadet push mowers, the SC 700 uses a comfort grip with 3-way adjustable ergonomic handles, optimizing control for the user.

Cub Cadet SC100 HW (High-Wheel)
Cub Cadet’s least expensive, smallest push mower provides a lot of value, offering a 3-in-1 bag, mulch, and side discharge, 159cc Cub Cadet OHV engine, and 11-inch rear wheels to provide optimum stability and control.
The Cub Cadet SC100 is an excellent, popular mulching mower, and ranks among the least-expensive Cub Cadet push mowers.
The SC100, while powerful for its size, is not self-propelled. Customers may want to look elsewhere if the mowing area is a large or hilly lawn.
Consumer Reports rated this Cub Cadet push mower at 3.2 out of 5 stars, writing that it’s adequate but a bit basic. They also stated that the SC100 is a gas-guzzler, and a noisy one at that.
Other professional reviews painted the SC100 in a more-flattering light, noting that the unit is designed to be no-frills and user-friendly. While it might seem a bit rudimentary compared to some of the more sophisticated mowers on this list, most professional reviewers thought the low-maintenance would work well for basic lawn care.
All of this said, the product rates very well among consumers, with the vast majority of online reviews being overwhelmingly positive. It seems actual users like the SC100 much more enthusiastically than professional reviewers, and we take that heavily into account.
Cub Cadet SC 500 High Wheel Self-Propelled Lawn Mower
Using the MySpeed drive system and a powerful rear-wheel drive, the Cub Cadet SC 500 HW is a very solid middle-tier mower. It uses the same 159cc Cub Cadet engine as the SC100 and includes many of the same features.
One of the smaller Cub Cadet push mowers is the SC 500 HW (high-wheel), which was built for small-medium yards with uneven terrain. The rear-wheel drive and the high-low offset ball-bearing wheels greatly help make the mower agile.
As one reviewer noted about the nimble SC 500: “Most of all, I love the maneuverability of it. With the front caster wheels, it is very easy to mow around things like a round garden without having the lift the front end of the mower. It mows effortlessly and is really enjoyable to cut the grass.”
Other reviewers loved the easy pull of the SureStart auto-choke and the effortless drive-train.
Cub Cadet 600 CC Wide Area Walk Mower
The Cub Cadet 600 CC wide-area mower features a push-button electric start and an extra-wide 28-inch mower deck for trimming bigger yards.
One of the smaller Cub Cadet push mowers is the SC 500 HW (high-wheel), built for small to medium yards with uneven terrain. The rear-wheel drive and the high-low offset ball-bearing wheels greatly help make the mower agile.
Customers loved the easy pull of the SureStart auto-choke and the effortless drive-train.
The SC 500 HW is available for purchase directly from Cub Cadet.
Cub Cadet SC 500 Z Walk Behind Mower
Last on the list is the small-but-nimble Cub Cadet SC 500 Z, which features zero-turn wheels for cropping around close quarters and excellent speed variability. The mower deck is 21 inches, and the mower is self-propelled.
With a 21-inch mower deck, the SC 500 Z wasn’t built for big lawns, but rather smaller lots full of obstacles such as bushes and trees.
This Cub Cadet push mower has received mixed reviews, with some users stating that the mower bag doesn't seat well, leading to cut grass being blown everywhere. The SC 500 Z is available via the Cub Cadet website.
Picking the Best Cub Cadet Push Mower for You
Cub Cadet produces a variety of walk-behind models with different purposes and consumers in mind. Consumers with smaller lawns may not need to invest in an oversized-mower such as the CC 800 in order to provide excellent care for their lawns, and Cub Cadet keeps this mind by offering a diverse line of high-quality mowers.
We hope this Cub Cadet push mower review has been informative. The company makes a number of strong options at different price points, and those in the market for a new walk-behind mower would do well to take a deeper look at what Cub Cadet has to offer.
